Simplicity

Friends' testimony on simplicity has a number of foundations: humility; the belief that luxury can serve to separate us from our fellows; and the belief that when we have excess, there are better uses on which to spend it than ourselves.

The stereotypical grey Quaker garb was an expression of the desire to live simply. While this is no longer worn by modern Friends, we try to find our own ways to reduce materialism in our lives.

A phrase often associated with simple living goes: "Live simply, that others may simply live."
